Slice Surpasses $1B GMV Milestone by Building Up Our Partners, Not Tearing Them Down

I’ve never seen things more clearly as I have in these last few months.

Third party apps have always been a threat to small businesses, the pandemic has only highlighted their predatory practices. We’ve seen headlines that are casting delivery apps as the winners while small businesses across the country are losing, sometimes forced to close altogether.

As I’ve watched this unfold over the past weeks, I’ve grown very concerned about the potential damage to our nation’s small businesses. I’m more fired up than ever and ready to fight for our local partners to make sure they get their fair share.

I started Slice because I fundamentally believe that we can help local thrive. As we look ahead, know this. Every day our team will build up our partners, not hurt them.

These local restaurants don’t need third-party middlemen, they need first-party partners who can create value. And the numbers are proving that our partner model fueled by your hard work has not only saved these businesses during the pandemic, it has catapulted their success. Because of our team’s hard work, we’ve reached some significant milestones that I am excited to share.

I’m so proud of our team. We’re doing it the right way. We’re growing with purpose. In fact, our small businesses have sold over $1 billion across over 5 million consumers on our platform. On top of that, we’ve also saved the businesses over $130 million compared to third party apps.

In fact, our small businesses have sold over $1 billion across over 5 million consumers on our platform. On top of that, we’ve also saved the businesses over $130 million compared to third party apps.

Since the start of March, we’ve seen a per shop sales lift of 65%, driven by a 41% increase in orders per shop and a 20% increase in average order value. Thanks to our flat fee per order model, regardless of size, the vast majority of these sales are going directly to the small businesses and that value is passed onto the consumer.

We have proven that the third party app model is not the only “solution” to keep small businesses afloat as customers shift to online ordering. Our business model, unique and true to our mission, has stayed laser focused on independent pizzerias and their unique needs.

The Slice team — 700 people strong — through successfully helping bring small and independent operations online, has built a united community of over 12,000 independent pizzerias across all 50 states. Within this economy of scale, we’re delivering lower costs on things like boxes and other supplies, enabling local shops to share best practices with one another, and revealing collective data to help better inform their business decisions.

We’re already zeroing in on the next billion as we continue to empower these businesses with the tools they need to stay relevant as the world quickly changes, not undercutting their margins or the essence of their brand and business.

Every day we are focused on the value we are providing each restaurant, not the share of the cut we’ll get. That’s why we keep our fees low and flat per order and why we and the businesses on our platform have had marked success. And it’s because we are truly committed — every day — to keep local thriving.
